How to Calculate Your Salary After Tax in Ghana

Gross Income − SSNIT − PAYE − Other Applicable Deductions
Your actual payroll calculation may differ depending on your allowances, benefits in kind, bonuses, overtime, personal reliefs and other qualifying deductions.
Ghana PAYE Tax Rates for 2026
Ghana uses graduated PAYE tax rates for resident individuals. This means different portions of chargeable income are taxed at different rates.
| Monthly Chargeable Income | Tax Rate |
|---|---|
| First GH₵588 | 0% |
| Next GH₵80 | 5% |
| Next GH₵100 | 10% |

How Much Is SSNIT Deducted From Salary?
For an employee, the SSNIT contribution is generally 5.5% of basic salary.
For 2026, SSNIT states that the maximum insurable earnings are GH₵69,000 per month. The employee contribution is therefore subject to the applicable insurable-earnings ceiling.
If your basic salary is GH₵5,000:
5.5% × GH₵5,000 = GH₵275
Gross Salary vs Net Salary
Gross salary is your employment income before applicable deductions.
Net salary, also called take-home pay, is the amount you receive after applicable deductions such as PAYE, SSNIT and other deductions.
Two employees can have the same basic salary but different take-home pay because of taxable allowances, benefits, bonuses or other qualifying deductions.
What Can Affect Your PAYE Calculation?
Your final PAYE deduction can depend on more than your basic salary. Employment income can include different types of allowances and benefits.
- Basic salary
- Transport allowance
- Accommodation or rent allowance
- Risk allowance
- Night-duty allowance
- Responsibility allowance
- Child education allowance
- Benefits in kind
- SSNIT contributions
- Qualifying provident-fund contributions
- Qualifying mortgage interest
- Certain qualifying donations and contributions

Because these rules can vary depending on your circumstances, this calculator should be treated as an estimate rather than a replacement for your employer's payroll calculation.
